An important task in determining the size of a potato, “sprout”

About 3-4 weeks after planting, the shoots that grow from Taneimo appear on the ground. When the height grows to about 15 to 25 cm, “sprouting” is done to reduce the number of shoots per plant. The larger the number of shoots, the more the potato will produce, but the nutrients are dispersed, so the size of each potato is smaller. In order for the potato to grow large, you must reduce the number of shoots.

“If you want to harvest L size potatoes (150-250 grams, about 7-9 cm) leave 2 buds, if you want to harvest L size potatoes (250-350 grams, about 12-15 cm) then leaving only one bud. Please pluck the other shoots. “

Note that if you judge the number of shoots from the number of stalks on the surface of the earth, you may accidentally pull all the shoots out. Even if it looks like multiple trees, it can be detached from a single shoot above the ground. Please check it properly in the next section (2).

Put your finger on the ground and check the correct number of shoots. Also, avoid the soil a little and shake each branch one by one. If the other stems are also swaying, that is evidence that they are growing from the same bud.

After deciding which buds to leave, pluck the unnecessary buds while holding the base of the plant with your hands so that the shoots don’t come apart.
